My Favorite False Eyelashes

Filed under: Product Review,Websites and Links — Administrator @ 9:26 am

I just wanted share some of my favorite false eyelashes with you all.

One of my favorite brands is called “Darkness”, this is a Korean brand and you can find it at most Korean market cosmetic counters, Korean cosmetic stores, online. My favorite styles are the K.ma series #7, #8 and #9. These styles come with 2 pairs and are usually in the price range of $2.50 to $3.50 per 2 pair.

Here is a website I found that sells them online: http://www.eyelash5.com/false-eyelash/false-eyelashes-kma-series.html

I like them because they give a real cute-sy look, its very ul-zzang (얼짱) style lashes. For those of you who don’t know what that means, ul-zzang is a coined phrase in Korean that means “best face” aka “good looking”. Many ul-zzangs are known to have a very specific makeup style, many of which utilize circle contact lens and false eyelashes.
Anyway, I guess I can also describe these lashes as some what anime-ish. I really like the criss cross pattern of the lashes and the serrated length of short/long.
This brand comes with 2 types of glue in the packaging, the white capped glue is similar to the American style eyelash glue such as Duo. The yellow capped glue is similar to the Asian style glue used to create double eyelids (쌍거풀). I recommend using the yellow capped glue as it is much stronger. The texture is much thinner (almost runny) than the white capped glue, it is an opalescent color that dries clear.
One thing to note about this brand is that the band is a little thicker and stiffer, so if you’re a first time false lash wearer, it may take a bit longer to get used to. Although, the thickness is some what of a draw back, I do like the added definition it creates.

One of my other favorite brands is called “Model 21″, this is a Vietnamese brand and you can find it at Vietnamese nail supply stores or online. My favorite styles are #4, #7, #9. These styles come in boxes of 10 pairs and are usually in the price range of $6.00 to $8.00 a box.

I like these lashes because they are made from human hair and are very natural looking, not to mention super cheap. These are my primary lashes that I use for weddings. They’re even great for everyday use. The band is thin, flexible and very comfortable, so its perfect if you’re learning how to wear false lashes.

Hope this helped =)
Now you guys don’t have to spend crazy money on false lashes.

I promise to update this post with pictures of what it looks like on.

The Makeup Show

Today, I went to the Makeup Show Convention with a couple makeup artist colleagues. It was like being a kid in a candy store! If you’re in Los Angeles, tomorrow is the last day. Check out the websites for more information and requirements www.themakeupshow.com.

The first thing we did was attend an airbrushing class hosted by Temptu. Although I purchased a temptu airbrush kit last year, I haven’t really reached for it. Partly because I find it a hassle to clean the airbrush gun, but mostly because I was focusing on my cream foundation application. Taking the class reinspired me to bust out airbrush again. I definitely will need people to practice on soon *wink*. I really like how their silicone based formula leaves a dewy finish that actually looks like skin. Temptu has a professional line of products available online and select stores as well as a consumer line available at Sephora. Check out www.temptu.com for more product info.

After the class, my game plan was to go up and down all the aisles to check out all the vendors and exhibtors before purchasing anything. Here are some of the items I bought today:

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concetre aka The 24 Hour Miracle Cream www.embryolisseusa.com
Hands down one of the best moisturizers I have come across. I have been stocking this product in my kit ever since I discovered it. It is extremely hydrating without feeling heavy or greasy. Even if you have dry, flaky skin this cream will make it supple in no time. The best part is that it is affordable, you can’t beat $25 a tube.

Hakuhodo Brushes www.hakuhodousa.com
These brushes are from Japan and let me tell you, I have never felt a softer brush. I wish I could own every single one they produce, but unfortunately they are expensive. I have been slowly building my collection little by little haha. Every time I go to a convention I get a couple here and there. If you’re looking for some AMAZING brushes, I definitely recommend this line. They are the original manfucaturers for MAC’s makeup brushes which I like as well. However, Hakuhodo brushes are far superior. If this is out of your budget and you’re looking for a good, cheap brush recommendation I would start off with Crown Brushes www.crownbrush.com.

OCC Lip Tars www.occcosmetics.com
This lip product applies like a lipgloss but dries like a lipstick. The pigmentation is insane I’m telling you! The formula is super opaque so a little bit goes a LONG way. For example, if you used a drop of this product the size of the “O” on your computer keyboard, it would cover your entire lips with none of your natural lip color showing. Lip tars are not sheer, are not see through, they are pure and true color. What you see in the tube is what you get on your lips. They have 24 different shades ranging from everyday wearable colors to funky/freaktastic. If I had to recommend just one color, I would recommend getting the clear lip tar. The clear allows you to create and mix and match your own colors by mixing it with pigments.

Cover FX www.coverfx.com
They call themselves the “Foundation Authority” and carries one of the largest range of colors I’ve seen. I currently have their water based and cream foundation in my kit and in all honesty I found their cream foundation a bit hard to use in the past. However, after mentioning this to one of their trainers, he took the time to show me step by step how to achieve the best results. The problem was that I was using too much product. Their foundation has TOTAL coverage, it can cover and camoflauge tattoos and skin disorders because of their intense pigmentation. It is oil free, fragrance free and non-comedogenetic, so it also works for those who have sensitive skin. I generally reserved this product for those who need the extra coverage. However, with a light hand this can go on great on anyone. I picked up their new “pro kit” that contained: 12 of the most commonly used shades of cream foundation, a fine milled, loose setting powder, a pressed matte powder, a primer, a makeup remover, and a foundation brush. I also picked up a few powder foundations for my more oilier clients. I also wanted to add that I love all their primers! There is the original formula (SkinPrep FX), a mattifying formula with acne treatment (ClearPrep FX) and a brightening formula for that extra glow (BritePrep FX).

Face Atelier www.faceatelier.com
My default foundation routine is to mix RCMA’s cream foundation with Face Atelier’s silicone based liquid foundation. This allows me to have the great coverage of RCMA but that dewy radiance of Face Atelier. If the client has good skin then I use the liquid by itself. Since I already have their foundation, I wanted to check out their lip products because I read some rave reviews. I picked up a few shades of their lip glaze. Their lip glaze has a light creamy consistency with a nice sheen and lustre to it, with not too much color. I also picked up their lip putty which is applied before lipstick to fill in any cracks, lines and prevent feathering.

Becca Cosmetics www.beccacosmetics.com
During the Temptu class, the celebrity makeup artist told us her favorite cream blush was Becca’s Turkish Rose. After seeing her apply it on the demo model, I knew I had to have it in my kit. It was the perfect shade of blush. It mimics a healthy, youthful glow and looks extremely natural. I appreciate the fact that it blends well and moves easily.

On the way home from the convention I stopped by the local Korean market to pick up some Korean cosmetics.

Clio http://www.clio.co.kr/english/brand.html
I have their peach blush and it is one of my all time favorite blushes. Its a mineralized blush that is a really nice peachy pink with some sheen to it. I really took a liking to this brand after using their blush so I picked up a mineralied highlighter that has a champagne tint to it as well as a rosy/mauve mineralized eyeshadow trio.

Ironically, I hardly ever wear makeup but I applied some of the new products I bought on myself to see the workability as well as how it photographs. Here’s my own before and after hahaha

And because I’m cheesy like that!!! If you haven’t yet, you need to check out www.asianposes.com, gotta love them fob poses ^^

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA sorry… I just had to =)

My Makeup Kit

My new soft train case/duffle bag came in the mail today! I ordered it off of www.yazmo.com and used discount code “renren” to get 10% off.

I’ve been using this black traincase for the past year or so and it is just way too heavy to lug around.

I just weighed the top traincase by itself and it came out to be a whopping 25 pounds! I don’t even know what the combined weight is. All I do know is that I had to lug it up 2 flights of stairs for one of my recent gigs and struggled.

So after reading online reviews, I decided to get the Zuca Pro Artist rolling case from www.zuca.com and used discount code “promkup” to get 20% off.

I got the black on black frame and bag, but it won’t ship til December because its back ordered. I was worried that it wouldn’t fit all my cosmetics so I got the duffle bag to supplement.

I figured in the mean time using only the duffle bag would teach me to scale down and not bring so many products. I highly doubt I would need 15 different shades of orange for a wedding right?

The top of my old traincase held most of the color products, such as foundation, eyeshadow, lipsticks, lipglosses, primers, etc.

The middle section carried all my blushes, pigments and misc. like makeup wipes, tape, scissors, etc.

The bottom portion carried my airbrush kit, disposable applicators, brushes and other tools.

Here is a side by side comparison of the old and new traincase.

I filled the top with (from left to right): brushes, liquid products (like hand sanitizer, makeup remover, setting spray, etc.), foundation, eyeshadow (I scaled down to just 2 palettes), blushes.

I filled the top drawers with lipsticks and lipglosses. The second drawer is filled with eye pencils, lip pencils, brow pencils.

The left side is filled with disposable applicators and false lashes. The right side is filled with concealors, primers and moisturizers.

The new duffle bag carries roughly about 70-75% of my previous traincase comfortably. The products I left out are: my airbrushing kit, airbrush cosmetics, all my pigments, additional eye and lip pencils, additional eyeshadow and additional brushes and tools.

Since I was snapping pictures, I took a picture of my hair kit as well. I got the Zuca Artist Backpack and love it. It fits all my hair stuff and keeps it super organized.

I have a wedding this Saturday, lets see how my new scaled down kit works. I’m hoping it cuts down on the clutter and increases efficiency.
I’ll let you know how it goes =)
